This course introduces you to Erik Dalton's Myoskeletal Alignment Technique®. Erik Dalton, PhD and Certified Advanced Rolfer, created MAT. After a traumatic neck injury in 1989, Erik began to understand the reflexogenic relationship between muscle and joints. Realizing that soft tissue therapists could draw techniques from other manual medicine modalities and affect more than muscle, Erik began studying and incorporating osteopathic techniques into his deep tissue routines, affecting the neurologic responses between muscle and joints.
This 40-hour class takes a tour through the body, assessing and treating common musculosketetal pain generators such as forward head posture, neck cricks, thoracic outlet syndrome, frozen shoulder, tennis and golfers elbow, sway back, low back pain, SI joint dysfunction, hip capsule adhesions and much more. You will learn to see postural holding patterns, feel tissue texture abnormalities, and understand how these deep-seated conditions can pummel the nervous system, leading to life long pain. Better yet you will learn innovative therapy techniques to assist the body in returning to a more pain free, happy life. One distinguishing goal that establishes the MAT method apart from other techniques is its dependence on identification and correction of joint fixations. This is accomplished by systematically releasing deep spinal muscles, ligaments and fibrotic joint capsules that torsion and compress spinal joints. In some cases, a bodyworker may apply direct pressure to bones to release fibrotic muscles that create joint blockages, but the intent is always soft-tissue work. This work is challenging, fun and effective, a great addition to your tool bag of techniques. |
